Why the turbocharger actuator version determines downpipe, intake and sensor compatibility.
PWG and EWG describe wastegate actuation
N55 turbochargers use either pneumatic wastegate actuation (PWG) or electronic actuation (EWG). This can affect the turbocharger, lines, ancillary parts and calibration, so it is not a minor naming difference.
- Do not infer PWG or EWG from the model name alone.
- An N55 listing is not automatically suitable for every N55 specification.
How to identify the version
Use the VIN and an authoritative parts catalogue, manufacturer confirmation or workshop inspection. Model year and model are useful clues, but not substitutes for the exact vehicle specification.
- VIN
- Production date
- Model and chassis
- OE reference or a clear photo of the installed part
Before ordering
Compare the documented applications and required facts on the product page. If a decisive fact is missing, fitment remains subject to verification rather than being inferred from the engine code.
