TECHNICAL GUIDE

Pre-preg or wet carbon: what is the difference?

Compare production, weight, surface finish, quality and price for the two carbon manufacturing methods.

Compare material, finish and installation requirements without marketing noise.

The processes differ in resin control

Pre-preg reinforcement is supplied with a controlled resin content and cured under defined conditions. Wet layup applies resin to dry reinforcement during manufacture. Both can produce good components; process and tooling quality remain decisive.

Do not assume weight or finish

Pre-preg typically enables more controlled fibre-to-resin distribution, but final weight, stiffness and finish still depend on layup, core, resin, cure and coating.

  • Fibre orientation and layup
  • Thickness and mounting points
  • UV-resistant finish
  • Edges, holes and reverse side

Judge the completed component

Review fitment evidence, scope of delivery and installation rather than relying on a material label alone. A cosmetic panel and a structurally loaded component have different priorities.
